Southwest Airlines is the leading US-based airline in terms of number of domestic passengers boarding flights, serving over 150,000 customers annually. From its humble beginnings 47 years ago, it has grown from serving just three cities back then to serving over 100 destinations in eight countries. Southwest's vision is to bring the best travel experience to as many people as possible, doing so in a friendly, efficient manner.

What makes Southwest Airlines a good employer?

Besides providing an outstanding, supportive work environment, where each employee is valued for his or her unique contributions, the airline offers employees excellent benefits including health and life insurance, a 401(k) plan, travel opportunities for employees and eligible dependents and a profit sharing plan that over the past year contributed approximately five weeks worth of pay toward employees' retirement accounts.

Southwest Airlines takes pride in offering a diversified workplace, so people with disabilities as well as military service veterans are especially encouraged to apply. Southwest maintains an extensive ADA Policy as well as complies with the Disability/ Veterans EEO Policy and maintains an Affirmative Action Policy for women and minorities as well as its Harassment Policy.

How to apply for a Southwest Airlines job:

When applying, an applicant will be asked to create an account, showing their personal "dashboard" from which they can view and apply for jobs as they appear. A dashboard is where applicants can update their profiles, find job opportunities and check out "job bids" in which applicants express interest in a particular job as well its location.

Applicants are advised that once a job has been applied for, they will not be contacted unless being considered for an actual interview, due to the high volume of applications. 81 percent of prospective employees apply online for the jobs offered, while about five percent come from an employee referral.

Most applicants find Southwest's online application process to be easy to use, with 80 percent reporting positive experiences while only about 8 percent reported having a negative experience. Difficulty level rating for the application process was only 2.6 on the average.

If the job applied for is showing as "Under Review", it means that Southwest is still in the process of accepting applications and reviewing qualified candidates. Once a position has been filled its status is changed to "Closed." If interested in a candidate, Southwest will conduct an initial interview over the phone. Assuming all goes well, this will be followed by a face-to-face interview, which usually lasts about half an hour. Job candidates will be asked the type of questions typical of most interviews, such as "why do you want to work for Southwest Airlines?"
